FAQ

Is acupuncture safe?

Acupuncture is very safe. All of my certifications and licensing require strict safety guidelines to be met as dictated by the State of California Acupuncture Board. All needles are sterile, used once, and disposed of properly following single use.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Positive and common sensations when experiencing acupuncture include tingling, warmth, electric sensation, dull ache, and heaviness. Most patients report a sensation when the needle is inserted, but it is not painful.  The sensation passes within seconds. When asked what the insertion of the acupuncture needle feels like, children have often said to me  “it feels like a pinch”.

Is there more than one style of acupuncture?

There are several styles of acupuncture, including but not limited to:

  • Chinese
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Balancing methods

  • Hara (abdominal) style
  • Hand techniques

Acupuncture needles tend to be the diameter of a hair. Each needle is sterilized and single use.
